I’m working on a postdoctoral research project titled 'Building the Portuguese Empire in the 19th century. Public Works across the Indian Ocean and China Sea (1869-1926)'.
Centered in the former provinces of East Portuguese Empire (Goa, Macau, Mozambique and Timor), this project intends to study the structure and activities of Public Works in each territory and reconstruct the networks established between them. Doing so it aims to understand how this institution has helped shape the built environment these different spaces in the nineteenth century colonial Portuguese encouraging their inter-influence.
